Ski for Light Winter Event

Upcoming Ski for Light Dates: January 19-23, 2025

Deadline to apply: December 15, 2024

Join us to celebrate the 46th anniversary of Black Hills Regional Ski for Light with old and new friends and continue the years of discovery, growth, and bonding.

 About Ski for Light:

The annual four-day winter event takes place in the Black Hills of South Dakota with participants joining us from around the world. This unforgettable experience offers adaptive skiing at two skiing venues, one for cross-country and another for downhill skiing, as well as opportunities for snowshoeing and snowmobiling. We welcome all visually and mobility-impaired individuals to join us for this fun and inviting event.

The cross-country ski and snowshoe venue is on Coeur Wharf, a mine reclamation area, while downhill skiing takes place at Terry Peak Ski Area. Snowmobiling takes place at Recreational Springs Resort in Lead, SD.

All levels of experience are welcome, whether you have never skied or are an advanced skier. The highlight of the event is the last day’s fun races where skiers have a chance to show off their skiing skills.

What to expect as a volunteer:

Our volunteers come from all walks of life whether they guide or not, from all over South Dakota and the country. We seek volunteers with a wide variety of talents and skills.

Unless you wish to guide, no special experience or requirements are needed to volunteer, other than a desire to help others. The opportunities to assist are endless and include guiding, event support, office and administrative support, fundraising opportunities, event planning, dog-sitting, and more.

What our participants say:

“I have been coming to Ski for Light for 20 years now. I am visually impaired, and I love Ski for Light because they treat you like a normal person when you come to the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. You meet so many awesome people there. Everyone makes me smile, and I feel so welcome at Ski for Light.”
